Abstract

Sind die grossen Strukturlinien der prophetischen Botschaft eschatologisch oder nur heilsgeschichtlich bedingt? Dies ist die Hauptfrage, mit welcher sich die zeitgenössische Forschung des Prophetismus beschäftigt. Die endgültige Antwort auf diese F rage hängt freilich mit dem allgemeineren Verständnis der Eschatologie eng zusammen. Wenn man diese als eine allgemeine Schau in die Zukunft als eine Erfüllungsperiode vesteht. müsste die gesamte Heilsgeschichte als „eschatologisch” bezeichnet werden. Im übrigen wären in diesem Falle auch die grossen theologischen Traditionen „eschatologisch”, da sie weitgehend den Verheissungscharakter aufweisen. Fasst man aber die Eschatologie als spezifisches Zeitverständnis auf, als eine Trennung der Geschichte in zwei grundverschiedene Zeitperioden, die der sündigen Vergangenheit und die der heilswollen Zukunft, dann wäre die Eschatologie erst bei den Propheten der Exilszeit (Deuterojesaja) nachweisbar. Nähere Analyse der prophetischen Texte ergibt aber, dass bereits die Propheten der Königszeit eschatologische Züge besitzen, die während des Exils und bei den späteren Propheten zu einer ausgesprochen Enderwartung ausgebaut werden. Die ältere eschatologische Prophetie nimmt gewöhnlich auf geschichtliche Ereignisse bezug; mit Rücksicht auf die Verzögerung und auf das Ausbleiben der endzeitlichen Ereignisse aber, werden diese in eine immer fernere Zukunft und sodann in eine unbestimmte Zeit verlegt Dies geschieht unter Einfluss der Apokalyptik, die in der Makkabäerzeit den Prophetismus in der Endzeiterwartung allmählich ablöste.
