The dynamic socio-political changes and wave of protests that hit Belarus following the fraudulent presidential elections in 2020 sparked an unprecedented wave of emigration, driving a significant portion of its citizens to new places of settlement. Poland, due to its geographic and cultural proximity and relatively open migration policy, has become one of the main destinations for Belarusians seeking security, stability, and new life prospects. In the context of forced or voluntary migration, the concept of home takes on a special meaning, transcending mere physical space and becoming a complex emotional, symbolic, and cultural construct. The experience of leaving one’s homeland, often in dramatic circumstances, inevitably leads to a redefinition and reinterpretation of what a family home is – both the one left behind and the one created in exile. We asked Belarusian citizens who arrived in recent years about their symbolic image of home in their place of residence in exile in Poland. Their responses served as a framework for describing their new home in exile.
