Copyright and Licensing

Copyright

Authors retain both the moral and economic copyright to their published works. Publishing an article in “Zeszyty Naukowe Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II” does not transfer economic copyright to the journal or to the Publisher.

The submitting author declares that:
- they are entitled to dispose of the rights to the submitted work;
- they have obtained the consent of all co-authors to submit and publish the text;
- any use in the article of material subject to third-party rights complies with the law;
- they have obtained the required permissions to reproduce illustrations, photographs, tables, charts, research instruments, and other materials, where such permissions are necessary;
- publishing the text does not infringe the copyright, personal rights, or other rights of third parties.

All authors approve the final version of the article and bear responsibility for its content.

Rights Granted to the Publisher

Once an article is accepted for publication, the authors grant The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, as the journal's Publisher, a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence enabling it to:
- publish the article for the first time;
- fix, reproduce, and distribute the article in printed and electronic form;
- make the article available in open access;
- assign and maintain a DOI;
- transmit the publication and its metadata to indexing databases, catalogues, repositories, archiving systems, and discovery services;
- make the necessary editorial, linguistic, technical, and typographical changes, without altering the meaning of the text;
- carry out long-term archiving and migrate the publication to new technical formats.

The licence granted to the Publisher is non-exclusive. Authors may continue to use their work, distribute it, and reuse it in subsequent publications, provided that its first publication in “Zeszyty Naukowe KUL” is acknowledged.

Open Access Licence

Articles published from issue 1/2024 onward are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). The full licence terms are available at: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.en

The CC BY 4.0 licence allows users to:
- copy and redistribute the article in any medium or format;
- adapt, transform, and build upon its content;
- use the work for scholarly, educational, social, and commercial purposes.

Use of the work is subject to the following conditions:
- correctly identifying the author or authors;
- stating the article's title and its place of original publication;
- including a link to the CC BY 4.0 licence;
- citing the DOI, if one has been assigned;
- clearly indicating whether changes were made to the work;
- not implying that the authors or the journal endorse the particular use made of the work.
No additional legal or technical restrictions may be applied that would prevent others from exercising the rights granted by the licence.

Third-Party Material

The CC BY 4.0 licence covers the content of the article unless indicated otherwise for a specific item. Photographs, illustrations, charts, research instruments, and other material originating from third parties may be subject to separate terms of use.
If a given item is not covered by the article's licence, anyone wishing to use it beyond what is permitted by law should obtain the consent of the relevant rights holder.

Marking Rights and Licences in Articles

Information about the copyright holder and the licence is included in every published version of the article, in both HTML and PDF format.

Notice used:

The notice includes an active link to the licence terms.

Previously Published Issues
The terms of use for articles depend on their date of publication:
from issue 1/2024 – Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0);
from issue 3/2018 to issue 4/2023 – Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0);
before issue 3/2018 – use of the works is governed by applicable copyright law, in particular within the limits of fair use.

The licence indicated for a specific article is binding for the use of that article.

Self-Archiving Policy

The journal supports the dissemination of research results in scholarly repositories and other non-commercial channels of scholarly communication.

Preprint
Authors may make available the version of the text prepared prior to peer review, known as a preprint, in an institutional repository, a subject repository, or a preprint server.
Making a preprint available must be disclosed to the Editorial Office when the article is submitted, together with its web address. The preprint should be clearly marked as a version that has not undergone peer review.
After the article is published, the author should update the preprint's description with the full bibliographic details and a DOI link to the published version.

Making a preprint available in accordance with the above rules is not treated as prior publication of the article.

Accepted Author Manuscript

Authors may deposit the accepted author manuscript — the version incorporating the revisions arising from peer review but not yet bearing the journal's typesetting and layout — in an institutional or subject repository.
The journal applies no embargo period to accepted author manuscripts.

The deposited file should include the following statement:
“Manuscript accepted for publication in ‘Zeszyty Naukowe Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II.’ This file is not the final published version of the article.”

Once the published version is released, the description of the accepted manuscript should be updated with the full bibliographic details and a DOI link.

Published Version of Record

Without any embargo period, authors may deposit and distribute the published Version of Record of the article, in particular:
- in institutional and subject repositories;
- on the websites of the authors and their research institutions;
- in scholarly information systems;
- on academic social networks;
- in teaching materials;
- in collections documenting research projects.

The shared version should be accompanied by:
- the full bibliographic description;
- the DOI;
- an indication that “Zeszyty Naukowe KUL” is the place of first publication;
- information on the licence applicable to that article.

Authors should not remove or alter the information on authorship, DOI, the journal, the Publisher, or the licence contained in the published file.

Reuse by Authors

Authors may reuse the published article or excerpts from it, among other things:
- in a doctoral or habilitation dissertation;
- in their own monograph;
- in teaching materials;
- at conferences and academic presentations;
- in project reports;
- in translations and other adaptations.

Every instance of reuse should include a statement that the article was first published in “Zeszyty Naukowe KUL,” together with its DOI.

Archiving Carried Out by the Journal

Published articles are stored on the KUL Journals Platform – CzasKUL and archived in the KUL Institutional Repository. Publications may also be transmitted to other long-term archiving systems, digital libraries, databases, and scholarly catalogues.
