https://czasopisma.kul.pl/index.php/znkul/article/view/18897

The article contains a proposal for analyzing various Polish patriotisms as creative actions and their product, which would entail an anthropologization of the issue. The author suggest interpreting these creations in five key dimensions: 1) rationalism and pragmatism opposed to spontaneity and emotions; 2) the hierarchy of social structure with its opposition: „The Bottom” and „The Top” or „elites” and „the people”/„nation”; 3) everyday life opposed to festivity; 4) a time axis, „ancient” patriotism of the past and patriotism of the future, which are in their way present in the present; 5) national unity opposed to pluralism of identity, which directly connects with the opposition of exclusivity and inclusivity of the sense of national bonding. The analytical model proposed treats Polish patriotisms as a mosaic of specific processes of creation related to the collective identity of individuals. These processes unfold multidimensionally along all these axes with an obvious fluidity of identity boundaries between the central reference point of the group, which has the character of national construction, and its spatially variable forms (regional and local), historically, environmentally, and individually.
Joanna Kurczewska

https://czasopisma.kul.pl/index.php/znkul/article/view/18948

The article is based on empirical research findings that clearly identify school and family as the primary sources of knowledge about the pontificate of Pope John Paul II. At the same time, the study reveals the marginal role of peer groups in shaping interest in the figure of the Pope and knowledge about him. Within the formative spaces – spanning school, family, and peer environments – respondents attribute varying degrees of importance to other institutions and contexts identified in the interview questionnaire as sources of knowledge about the Pope. These include, among others: the Catholic Church, traditional and digital media, films, and literature. Based on the presented and discussed research results, one may propose a hypothesis of a „uniformly accelerated motion” in the processes of secularization and laicization among successive generations of young Poles.
Wojciech Świątkiewicz

https://czasopisma.kul.pl/index.php/znkul/article/view/18772

The article presents an analysis of solidarity both as a social phenomenon and as a category helpful in interpreting collective attitudes in relation to the situation of poverty. The situation of poverty is a so-called traditional problem, and attitudes towards poverty and attitudes towards people experiencing poverty, people that cannot fully participate in social life, act as a kind of test revealing the practical dimension of social solidarity in a given community. Therefore, referring to the results of a survey conducted in 2022 on a representative group of Warsaw residents, we show what attitudes Warsaw residents adopted towards people living in poverty and on this basis we conclude what the nature of metropolitan solidarity was and what factors determine it. So it come out that Warsaw solidarity is not determined by classic neighbourhood resulting from the common inhabitation of physical space. Other issues come to the fore, including the subjectivity we identified resulting from the positive assessment and approval of civic activity, as well as its constant practice. The solidarity towards the poor identified by us is therefore based neither on deep community, collective identity and the mutual responsibility resulting from it nor on the idea of communitarianism, nor is it pragmatic (calculated), but its strong component is the issue of citizenship.
Barbara LewensteinKatarzyna Górniak

https://czasopisma.kul.pl/index.php/znkul/article/view/18902

This article addresses the issue of job satisfaction in the mediation profession, considered in the context of the specific nature of professions with a social mission. The source material is the results of a survey conducted in 2023 among permanent mediators registered in regional courts in Poland. The aim of the analysis is to address the factors shaping job satisfaction in mediation, taking into account motivation, a sense of fit with the requirements of the socio-professional role and working conditions, and satisfaction with specific aspects of work. The vast majority of surveyed mediators declared a high degree of job satisfaction, but this was based on various values that defined other dimensions of attitudes, including pro-social, missionary, and professional. The population proved to be diverse in terms of education and profession (legal vs. non-legal). These divisions implied differentiation of work situations and satisfaction factors, as well as the varying importance of the mediator's role within the overall professional activity.
Jagoda Katarzyna JeziorEwelina Frącek

https://czasopisma.kul.pl/index.php/znkul/article/view/18895

The aim of this article is to analyse young people's attitudes towards the Sephora kids phenomenon and cosmetic practices in the context of the mediatisation of everyday life. Based on qualitative interviews with young people aged 13–16, three components of attitudes were identified: cognitive (cosmetic knowledge), affective (emotional attitude towards appearance) and behavioral (daily beauty rituals). Findings indicate that these practices are an important part of young people's identity construction, with social media and influencers serving an educational, normative and emotional function. The Sephora kids phenomenon is a manifestation of broader socio-cultural processes: the shifting boundaries of childhood, consumerism and the influence of media on the body and identity.
Monika Dobrogowska

https://czasopisma.kul.pl/index.php/znkul/article/view/18239

This article explores the emotional experiences of individuals who grew up in families affected by paternal alcohol dependence. Drawing on a qualitative research design, the author conducted in-depth individual interviews in February and March 2021. The study examined the emotional responses of those raised in households with an alcoholic father. Its primary objective is to present findings on a child’s emotions in the relationship with a father struggling with alcohol addiction, as recalled and interpreted from the vantage point of adulthood. Participants’ narratives allowed for the identification of two overarching categories of emotions: those fostering the father–child relationship and those impeding it. In childhood, relationship-supportive emotions were reported far less frequently than negative or relationship-impairing ones. In adulthood, however, these two categories of emotions appeared in a more balanced proportion.
Justyna Konopelko
