Przyszłość świadomości. Julian Jaynes na nowo odczytany

Interpretowana pół wieku po jej sformułowaniu Juliana Jaynesa hipoteza o powstaniu świadomości pozwala lepiej dostrzec niektóre problematyczne aspekty refleksji filozoficznej na ten temat. Po pierwsze, hipoteza ta pomaga przenieść uwagę z mniej istotnego problemu definicji świadomości na ważniejszy problem rozumienia człowieczeństwa. Po drugie, dokonanie historycznej interpretacji pochodzenia świadomości pozwala na nowo spojrzeć na człowieka jako na istotę żywą. Przede wszystkim jednak refleksja nad teorią Jaynesa zmusza do postawienia pytania, którego on sam nie formułuje – pytania o możliwy koniec świadomości w historii ludzkości.
