Abstract

The aim of the article is a discussion of Stanisław H. Lubomirski's reflections on freedom. The concept in question is analyzed in reference to the ancient category of self-care and its Christian rendition, which, on the one hand, embraces humanistic paideia (or spiritual exercises) and, on the other, locates the idea of self-care as such within the realm of the theological insight into the essence of nature and grace, respectively. Thus, in his understanding of freedom, Lubomirski employs the ancient ideal of the sage, combined with the Christian concept of grace which enables the experience of freedom.
