Abstract

The focus of the essay is the impact of the modern city as the fundamental environment for the development of art. The author outlines the consequences of this phenomenon, which has manifested itself for over a century now, for the creation of music, in particular jazz. Against this background, the author discusses the problem of the possibility of photography as visual representation of urban spaces, as well as the music created in them, specifically analyzing the output of the American photographer Roy DeCarva.
