Abstract

The article is devoted to the process of hermeneutical reflection on the biblical text, which enables interpreters, basing on the literary motifs present in the Bible, to create things-symbols which express deeper theological content at a more-than-literal level. The author discusses the phenomenon of the biblical symbolism and presents ancient and medieval glossaries synthetizing this phenomenon, to proceed to an attempt at answering the question to what extent the hermeneutics of creative biblical symbolism can serve theological reflection?
