Abstract
The paper is dedicated to the profile of a Polish philosopher of law Czesław Martyniak, executed in Lublin at the beginning of World War II. The article aims to show his intellectual courage which was manifested in the choice of Thomism as a foundation for his scholarly reflection. The current which was in opposition to dominating intellectual tendencies. As a consequence of the choice, Martyniak criticized legal positivism and was a follower of the view that there must obtain the relationship between law and morality. He was also an opponent of relativism that had a lot of followers. Although Martyniak was convinced that it was necessary to use strictly rational argumentation within the philosophy of law, he was aware of the worldview consequences of his position and openly admitted it.
