“He radiated an unusual aura”: Reflections at the End of The Andrzej Nikodemowicz Year

The article draws on almost thirty-seven-year cooperation of the author with Andrzej Nikodemowicz, an eminent composer, pianist, and teacher. The paper presents an outline of his professional and artistic career. In particular, the author describes works Nikodemowicz composed in the years 1945–2016 using various musical forms. The paper recalls the atmosphere and the content of the conversations with the composer, as well as his opinions on music in the aspects of style, performing practices, and social significance. A special attention is given to the common achievements of Nikodemowicz and the author of the article, such as establishing “Andrzej Nikodemowicz—Time and Sound” International Festival, organized in Lublin since 2012, and different forms of the promotion of the composer’s music. The author also describes Nikodemowicz’s personal achievements, such as the honorary citizenship of Lublin, and the ways in which the memory and oeuvre of the composer were celebrated, especially by the city of Lublin authorities proclaiming the year 2025 The Andrzej Nikodemowicz Year.
