Dwa rodzaje równości

Artykuł proponuje nową perspektywę w badaniu nierówności społecznych. W oparciu o ustalenia historyków gospodarki oraz naukowców społecznych przedstawione zostają dwa podstawowe modele stratyfikacji społecznej charakterystyczne dla dwóch dominujących systemów społeczno-gospodarczych: gospodarki opartej na wymianie darów oraz kapitalizmu. O ile w pierwszym z nich redukowanie nierówności ekonomicznych idzie w parze z wytwarzaniem nierówności politycznych, o tyle w drugim niwelowanie nierówności politycznych pociąga za sobą wzrost nierówności ekonomicznych. Prowadzi to do wniosku, że między tymi dwoma rodzajami równości istnieje pewne nieusuwalne napięcie. Kwestia ta zostaje omówiona w kontekście klasycznego ujęcia ustroju mieszanego. „Władza jednego” oraz „władza wielu” okazują się niezdolne do zagwarantowania większej równości ekonomicznej, dlatego jako rozwiązanie autor proponuje reformę pogrążonej w kryzysie „władzy niewielu”.
