Abstract

The issues presented in this study are of historical nature and constitute an introduction to the subsequent detailed research. Its purpose is to present an outline of the development of a compensation system for a person suffered primarily in connection with the performance of work or personal injury resulting from a road accident in New Zealand. These are, of course, not the only situations justifying a claimant’s claim for payment of benefits, but they are certainly a central category.

The study indicates the historical context because it is not without significance for the shape of current regulations. Basically, it should be noted that the framework adopted in 1972, although changed over the years, has underlain the contemporary Accident Compensation System.
