Abstract
The article Blessings and Sacraments. Around Fiducia supplicans discusses the theological relationship between blessings and sacraments, particularly in the context of the papal declaration Fiducia supplicans by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. The text highlights the historical and biblical roots of blessings, tracing their significance from the Old Testament, where blessings were acts of devotion and recognition of God’s goodness, through the New Testament, where they became closely tied to Christ and the Eucharist. The author analyzes how the concept of blessings evolved in Christian antiquity, the Middle Ages, and modern times, noting the shift away from linking blessings to the Eucharist in favor of sacramentals. The Second Vatican Council made a significant contribution to renewing the theology of blessings, emphasizing their liturgical nature and the role of both clergy and laity in administering
them.
