Abstract
The publication is the outcome of the international scientific conference Archives in totalitarian states in Central and Eastern Europe, which took place in Lublin and Sandomierz on September 5-7, 2018. It was attended by numerous researchers from the above-mentioned part of Europe, who focused on the issue of the influence of the communist party and state authorities on archival activities, including: on the appointment of directors of state archives, the involvement of institutions in spreading communist propaganda, etc. The book is the first study of this type in Poland on the issues of the political context of the operation of archives and is an encouragement to undertake further research on this issue. An additional stimulus may be the achievements of German scientists who analyzed the functioning of archives in the German Democratic Republic and showed new research fields.
