Natural gas is one of the key sources of Energy in the European Union. The citizens of the EU are dependent on about 70% of natural gas imported from third countries. Therefore, the common security of gas in Europe is very important. Lessons learned from the gas crisis in early 2009, accelerated the work on the introduction of the Third Liberalisation Package. In this paper, the author focuses on the critical analysis of the Regulation 713/2009 establishing the Agency for Cooperation of Energy Regulators, Regulation 715/2009 on conditions for access to natural gas transmission networks as well as Directive 2009/73 concerning common rules for the internal market in natural gas. The author assesses, in what extent the new regulations enhance the security of gas in Europe.
