Housing Stock in Polish Voivodeship and Marshal Cities: 2013 and 2023

Abstract
The housing sphere is an important part of the economy. Its essential element is the housing stock, which is located in specific locations. The article presents various definitions of housing and presents indicators to show the housing situation. The index of the number of housing units per 1,000 inhabitants and the size of the housing stock (in total and by ownership structure) for 18 voivodeship and marshal cities were adopted for comparative analysis. Data for the years 2013 and 2023 were used with regard to the ownership structure for 2022. The comparative analysis carried out showed that the examined cities increased the indicator of the number of housing units per 1,000 inhabitants, which was a result of an increase in the housing stock and changes in the population. The city with the largest number of dwellings is Warsaw, while the smallest number of dwellings is in Gorzów Wielkopolski. In Rzeszów, over the last decade, the housing stock increased to the greatest extent, while the smallest increase occurred in Łódź. As regards the ownership structure, the number of dwellings owned by natural persons and social housing associations increased. In the vast majority of cities, the number of housing units owned by other entities decreased (with the exception of Zielona Góra). On the other hand, the housing stock owned by communes, housing cooperatives and workplaces decreased in all of the cities analyzed. The number of dwellings owned by the State Treasury decreased in 13 and increased in 5 voivodship and marshal cities. During the analyzed time period, the percentage share of dwellings located in the analyzed cities increased in relations to the country as a whole.
