Superpower Rivalry Versus Washington–Beijing Cooperation The USA–PRC Trade Confrontation (2018–2023)

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide an insight into the complex nature of the trade conflict between the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China, which represents one of the most significant economic clashes of the last decade. The protectionist actions of the superpowers have caused perturbations not only in national economies but have led to the destabilisation of the global economy due to their participation in the fragmentation of production. American intentions have specifically included reducing the negative trade balance and, according to Washington, curbing unfair Chinese practices that lead to intellectual property theft and technology transfer. In turn, the Chinese focusing on growth in the technology and industrial sectors, have responded with retaliatory measures, introducing tariffs on American goods. With the presidency of Joe Biden, the trade confrontation has turned into a technological rivalry in which negotiating capacity and cooperation between representatives of both countries are important issues.
