POLICY ON THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) TOOLS

The Editorial Board of “Verbum Vitae” journal follows the ethical standards formulated by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools:

Regarding the use of such tools by editors, authors, and reviewers, the Editorial Board also follows the standards developed by Elsevier:

Detailed rules for the use of AI tools:

  1. The use of assistive AI tools is permitted solely for the purposes of:
    - checking spelling, grammar, and style;
    - assisting in information research;
    - translation and language correction.

When submitting a text, authors are required to disclose and describe the extent to which they have used such tools.

  1. The use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools for text preparation is prohibited. If, for important and justified reasons, they were used to create images/graphics or to collect and analyze data, this should always be done under the supervision and control of the authors. Authors should carefully check the content generated using such tools and take full responsibility for it.

  2. When submitting a text, authors are required to disclose and describe the extent to which they have used GAI tools, including:
    - the name of the tool used (including the name of the model used);
    - the software version and date of use;
    - a detailed description of the commands (prompts) used to generate the content;
    - a precise description of how and to what extent the tools were used and how the use of the tool affected the work;
    - verification that the tool used did not generate content from other authors’ work (and thus that no plagiarism occurred);
    - if applicable, the use of GAI in the research process should be reported and described in detail in the methods section.

The following statement is preferred and should be included in the “message to the editor” field when submitting an article for publication:

When preparing the text……………………………………………………………… (title), the author(s) used…………………………………………………………….(name of tool) for the purpose of………………………………………..... (reason and detailed description of the use of tools). The author(s) then thoroughly and critically reviewed the text, especially with regard to the possibility of generating false, incomplete, or biased information, the occurrence of plagiarism, or the lack of/incorrect authorship attribution, and edited it accordingly. The author(s) fully accept the submitted manuscript, assure that there are no violations of publication ethics, and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.

  1. Information about the use of generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies in the writing of an article that has been accepted for publication will be published at the end of the text. The Editorial Board reserves the right to verify the authors' statements using AI detectors.
